Biomassa biography:

The concept of Biomassa Sound originates in the sunny south side of Switzerland out of the mind of four friends who have a common passion for reggae and jamaican music. After going for years to several dancehalls all over switzerland and Italy the group decides to start his own thing, willing to bring more vibes to the Ticino reggae scene. The crew is composed by Natural Powa (MC/Selecta), Byuhza (Selecta), Sunman (MC/Selecta) and Clean Energy (Selecta). The crew start to collect their first vinyls and to play them in a little room in Meride, the HQ of Biomassa. It passes another year until the youngsters get the occasion to play at their first dance organized by T-I Sound, the stepfather of Biomassa. So officially the birth of the sound dates 2010. After that moment the four members start to get booked more regularly, playing all over Ticino and getting some dates also in the near Italy and in the rest of Switzerland.
In 2010/11 the sound travels to Jamaica with the intention to learn more about the jamaican culture and her music. During the stay also the first dubs come in the box, who starts to grow with the passing of time. Once Back in Switzerland the crew is clearly influenced by the dancehall scene and starts to include it in the dances. We believe that a Soundsystem should play every different facet of the jamaican music, with a selection who goes from ska, rocksteady, early roots until the hottest and freshest dancehall tunes from the island. In the most of our sets we often include some hip-hop, as we grew up with a big influence from that music genre.
The sound is now motivated to reach higher and gets better and better. With the improvement also the equipment changes, adapting to the new technology of serato and serato itch, giving the possibility of a faster and more varied juggling.
In 2012 Biomassa brings for the first time in Switzerland a youth named Kabaka Pyramid, who’s nowadays one of the most promising and established reggae artists in the jamaican and worldwide scene.
A year later Biomassa returns in Milano to defend the title won the first edition and finally brings home the second trophy from across the border.
In the past years we have played all over Switzerland and Italy alongside sounds like T-I, Ma Gash, Irie Crew, Cool Runnings, Ganjaforce, Magic Tuts, I-Trees, Soul Rebel, Real Rock, Max Rubadub, Jimmy Spliff, Rising Hope, Root Block & many more, and shared the stage with artists like Kabaka Pyramid, General Levy, Randy Valentine, Elijah, Cookie The Herbalist, Sud Sound System, Lord Madness….
A Biomassa dance guarantees nice vibes from dusk till dawn and goes from evergreen foundation hits to the latests dancehall anthems, mek sure yuh nah miss it!
